Fun facts

  • Fireplaces have been the center of homes for over 2,000 years

  • Foxes actually curl up in dens during cold weather, making this indoor scene a charming fantasy

  • The crackling sound of a fire comes from trapped air and water in the wood expanding and escaping

  • Traditional fireplaces can lose up to 90% of their heat through the chimney

  • Foxes have excellent meditation-like patience when hunting, sometimes waiting motionless for hours

  • The orange glow of a fire comes from carbon particles heated to about 1,000 degrees Celsius

  • Many cultures consider the hearth sacred and associate it with home protection

  • Foxes have whiskers on their legs as well as their faces to help them navigate

  • The concept of a "hearth and home" dates back to ancient Roman times

  • The dancing pattern of flames is actually chaotic and never repeats exactly the same way twice

Behind the art

Inspiration

Inspired by those perfect winter evenings when the world outside is cold, but inside by the fireplace everything is warm, peaceful, and safe

Artist notes

I created this scene to capture that universal feeling of comfort we all seek - the Danish concept of "hygge." The fox represents our wild spirit finding peace in moments of quiet contemplation by the fire. Every element in the room was chosen to enhance that sense of coziness and warmth
